Soviet Children

English Russia has posted a photo album called Happy Soviet Children.  Here are two photos that caught our eye.

Here we see the glorious wonders of the state childcare development services: empty plates and full cribs.

Stalin loved the children....

The man in the suit to the right of Stalin is Minister of Foreign Affairs Vyacheslav Molotov.  In Soviet politics, Molotov was a rare survivor.  He outlived many of Stalin's other aides, partly because he didn't protest when Stalin forced his divorce from Polina Zhemchuzhina and sent her to prison on false treason charges in 1948.  She was released by Stalin's NKVD head, rumored assassin, and brief successor, Lavrentiy Beria.  She died in 1970, and Molotov died in 1986.
