Great Depression Myths

ZeroHedge has a post explaining the Great Depression.

They have also posted the 28-page Myths of the Great Depression report by Lawrence W. Reed.

Our take-away was the explanation that the Great Depression was actually 4 consecutive downturns, not just a single collapse.

The four downturns, with Wikipedia links:

1. Monetary Policy and the Business Cycle.  See the Wall Street Crash of 1929.
2. The Disintegration of the World Economy. See Smoot-Hawley Tariff.
3. The New Deal.
4. The National Labor Relations Act (NLRA), or the Wagner Act.

Go there to read more.  They posted a video there too.

This Video We Do Not Speak Of

What video?

Our dear leader spoke at the UN today.  He, again, blamed the recent murders of four Americans in Libya on "this video" that we do not speak of:

...a crude and disgusting video sparked outrage throughout the Muslim world. I have made it clear that the United States government had nothing to do with this video, and I believe its message must be rejected by all who respect our common humanity.

It is shocking an educated man can continue to avoid such an important question.

As a child in Indonesia, did Obama blame a torn page in his Koran on an imaginary infidel?

We demand he name this video.   We want to see it.  We promise to be objective.  It is very possible that we too would reject that video and do so in the loudest terms possible here at Ushanka.

If he can blame our president of four years ago for all of his current failures, he can name the video he blames caused the murder of four Americans.

Until he names the video we will continue to believe he is deflecting blame that is rightly his.

Bump in the Road

Our Dear Leader recently explained the deaths of four Americans in Libya, including our ambassador, as "a bump in the road" in the execution of his Middle East policies.

China is relocating some citizens from the Changsha Village.  One citizen, He Zhi Hua, refused and laid in front of the government vehicles.  On orders from the Vice Mayor, he was crushed to death.

Or as Obama would say, he became a bump in the road.

Whether true Communists like the Chinese, or the Communist-inspired here in the US, the result is the same.  Death.  Dispair.  Desperation.  Dependency.

Tell us again libs - how is this for the greater good?

UPDATE 5pm:

A couple related images our Facebook Comrades have posted today:

Lunch Policy Guy

Finally a fun "Food" post here at Ushanka.

The masses have risen up against First Lady Commissar of Food Rationing.

Imagine if YouTube had existed before Povolzhye (5m dead) in 1921, or Holodomor in 1932 (6m dead).

UPDATE:

We offered them hats, but they declined!  They said the hat is not the message they are trying to send.

Really?

Food control is part of food-as-a-weapon, and their video shows the students are ground zero in this attempt.  The reason their video has gone viral is because those who know their history are spreading the word.  Do these people really think the viewers of their video are just watching cute kids demanding snacks?

Food is the best weapon against people.  Those who know their history will know why we shudder when we hear any politician suggest the government is better at, or should take a more active role in, food production, storage, transport and/or distribution.  And even when that politician's wife suggests a 'better' menu for schools.

Glenn Beck owns one of our hats.  Here he explains one possible outcome when the government controls the food.

UPDATED 3pm:

Food seems to be the topic du jour.  A friend emailed us this just now:

"Who will help me plant my wheat?" asked the little red hen.
"Not I," said the cow.
"Not I," said the duck.
"Not I," said the pig.
"Not I," said the goose.
"Then I will do it by myself." She planted her crop and the wheat grew and ripened.

"Who will help me reap my wheat?" asked the little red hen.
"Not I," said the duck.
"Out of my classification," said the pig.
"I'd lose my seniority," said the cow.
"I'd lose my unemployment compensation," said the goose.
"Then I will do it by myself," said the little red hen, and so she did.

"Who will help me bake the bread?" asked the little red hen.
"That would be overtime for me," said the cow.
"I'd lose my welfare benefits," said the duck.
"I'm a dropout and never learned how," said the pig.
"If I'm to be the only helper, that's discrimination," said the goose.
"Then I will do it by myself," said the little red hen.

She baked five loaves and held them up for all of her neighbors to see.
They wanted some and, in fact, demanded a share but the little red hen
said, "No, I shall eat all five loaves."
"Excess profits!" cried the cow.. (Nancy Pelosi)
"Capitalist leech!" screamed the duck. (Barbara Boxer)
"I demand equal rights!" yelled the goose. (Jesse Jackson)
The pig just grunted in disdain.. (Harry Reid)
And they all painted 'Unfair!' picket signs and marched around and around the little red hen, shouting obscenities.

When the farmer (Obama) came he said to the little red hen, "You must not be so greedy."
"But I earned the bread," said the little red hen.
"Exactly," said Barack the farmer. "That is what makes our free enterprise system so wonderful. Anyone in the barnyard can earn as much as he wants. But under our modern government regulations, the productive workers must divide the fruits of their labor with those who are lazy and idle."

And they all lived happily ever after, including the little red hen, who smiled and clucked, "I am grateful, for now I truly understand."
But her neighbors became quite disappointed in her. She never again baked bread because she joined the 'party' and got her bread free. And all the Democrats smiled. 'Fairness' had been established.
Individual initiative had died but nobody noticed; perhaps no one cared so long as there was free bread that 'the rich' were paying for.
And perhaps....this is the end...................   And the next week, there was no bread, or anything else to eat. So, they all starved equally.

---

But the video that started this thread is just about kids getting snacks....

Photo of the Day

There is a meme going on with Dems writing two-word slogans on their hands.  Like we did back in grade school.  We were cute when we did it.  The Dems look stupid, desperate and little when they do it.

We planned to ignore this completely, but then saw this photoshop at The Looking Spoon.

Ok, now we're done.

Quote of the Day

Save The Planet – Buy An AR!
BY Herschel Smith

As for any willingness to compromise on something like limiting the size of ammunition clips, Campbell says if Democrats could be trusted not to ask for more and more, he’d consider it. But he says you can’t trust Democrats in general, and you certainly can’t trust Obama. And he says liberals mistake gun owners’ enmity toward the president for something it’s not.

It’s not a black thing, it’s a liberal thing,” Campbell says.

U/T: Glenn

In case you don't know, "AR" is a reference to the AR-15 rifle.

The AR-15 rifle is the civilian semi-auto version of the military's full-auto M16 rifle.

We lost our AR-15 in a recent boating accident, so we had to turn to the web for photos of guns...

First one is from Oleg:

Blood on His Hands

The top image is the obscene modification of our flag made by the Obama campaign.  To them, the flag is a symbol they pull out two months before every election in order to capture the confused voters who considers themselves patriots.

The bottom image is from Libya where four Americans were murdered for being American.  That stain on the wall is from blood stained fingers.  Obama's fingers.

UPDATED noon:

Glenn has same image on InstaPundit, with some links to others discussing these images.

UPDATED 1:45:

Andrea Shea-King, hat owner, just posted this version on Facebook:

UPDATED 5pm:

Yesterday we had some fun at the expense of the Obama campaign's latest effort to attract voters whose age and IQ are both in the 18 to 29 range. The campaign instructed its followers to write messages on their right hands then upload to Facebook or Twitter photos of themselves pledging allegiance to the Dear Leader. The hashtag, #forall, echoes the final words of the real Pledge of Allegiance.

Seeing this in action, it's creepier than we first realized. National Review's Daniel Foster highlights a photo of campaign manager Jim Messina with writing on both his hands: "Obama" on the left, "Care" on the right, positioned so you read them in that order. The smile on his face is terrifying; he looks like somebody who shouldn't be allowed near the immature people for whom the campaign is meant.

The Washington Examiner notes that actress Jessica Alba, in a campaign email, makes it explicitly a pledge of allegiance to Obama:

"Growing up, my classmates and I started every day with a ritual: We'd stand up, put our right hand over our hearts, and say the Pledge of Allegiance," explains Alba. "To me, that gesture was a promise. A promise to be involved and engaged in this country's future. A promise to work for liberty and justice--and for affordable education, health care, and equality--for all."

Along similar lines, blogger Jeryl Bier calls attention to a tweet from @BarackObama, the campaign account, promoting "a poster to say there are no red states or blue states, only the United States." That's a line from then-state Sen. Obama's speech at the Democratic National Convention.

Click on the link and you end up on a page at Store.BarackObama.com, which offers prints of four campaign artworks. Two of them, titled "Our Stripes," are a parody of the American flag. The red and white stripes are shown as streaks of paint, which strikes us as inoffensive artistic license. But the blue field with 50 red stars is replaced with the "O" campaign logo. It's not the United States of America anymore, but the United States of Obama.

Creepy.  Predictable.  Desperate.

A Call for His Resignation

InstaPundit blogger Glenn Reynolds called for Obama's resignation this week.

The events that lead up to this demand:
  1) Radical Islamists attack our embassies on September 11
  2) Radical Islamists murder 4 Americans in Libya including the ambassador - Sept. 12.
  3) Obama panics, blames an unknown movie for the rage.  The movie had one showing back in June.
  4) Obama translates the Sept. 11 attacks as demands to stop the movie from airing.
  5) Obama orders the FBI to harass the maker of the movie.
  6) The FBI follows the illegal order and hassles the movie maker.

Here is the movie maker being led to a police car at 1am.  He is not under arrest, but it is a perp walk nonetheless.  He chooses to have his face covered for fear of retaliation, but his name is now known.

Glenn:

By sending — literally — brownshirted enforcers to engage in — literally — a midnight knock at the door of a man for the non-crime of embarrassing the President of the United States and his administration, President Obama violated that oath. You can try to pretty this up (It’s just about possible probation violations! Sure.), or make excuses or draw distinctions, but that’s what’s happened. It is a betrayal of his duties as President, and a disgrace.

The late night knock on the door.  It's not just for Stalin anymore.

Others, including us, have been slow to ramp up to Glenn's outrage.  Partially because the photo above doesn't surprise us.  Partly because we've been outraged since January 2009.  Partly because we've been demanding his resignation (or impeachment) upon every anti-American word he's uttered, or action he's taken.

Remember, it was in April 2009 - three months into Obama's term - when Homeland Security published their booklet on "Right Wing Extremism."   We knew then what he is willing to do, and to whom.

The Muslim Brotherhood President of Egypt immediately suggested-- demanded-- that we look for a reason to jail this guy. We *DID.*

Doug at Sondrakistan spells out the lessons here:

It depicts a totalitarian state intent on illegally crushing by force and intimidation those who embarrasses it.

It is a cowardly appeasement of foreign enemies intent on destroying our way of life.

Law enforcement will not protect you from abuse by the state — it will go along with it.

Dave at Moonbattery writes:

If we manage to pull the country out of its tailspin this November, this image will be remembered as the lowest point in our history. If not — and Obama is reelected — it will only be a foretaste of the nightmare to come. The higher you climb, the harder you fall — and America climbed to the very summit of human achievement, before liberalism rotted our souls away.

Ann Barnhardt:

So a movie that few saw back in June is the reason for all the rage in the Middle East, Mr. President?  Have you seen Ann Barnhardt's Koran-burning videos - part one and part two?  They are Epic.  Two thumbs up.  Infidels agree - Fun for the whole family!

Ann - a proud hat owner and fellow anti-communist - explains why our masters know better than to knock on her door in the middle of the night:

The last thing they want is for an intelligent, articulate, highly credible person to get any exposure. And the very, very, very last thing any of them want is for a single female to make the news after shooting dead her attempted musloid assassins. They can't win with me.

Bloggers are keeping the image alive with some text overlays.  Here is our favorite so far:

Quote of the Day

Mitt Romney:

There are 47% of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47% who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it. That that's an entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what. . . . These are people who pay no income tax.

We've been waiting four years for this kinda clarity.

It's been worth the wait.

We took the photo above.  We were outside the Democrat Convention entrance in Denver in August 2008 and Mitt walked right by us.

We were yelling, "Get your Commie Obama hat right here!  Be the first in the convention hall with a Commie Obama hat!"

That was a different America back then.

Who knew, and when?

Ambassador Christopher Stevens didn't know he was being targeted for attack.  He, and three other Americans are dead now.

Libyans warned Hillary Clinton's State Department three days before the attacks.  Politico: Ben Stein has since asked for her resignation.

Those of us who watched hat owner Glenn Beck in the Spring of 2011 had over a 15-month warning.

Maybe members of the Obama Administration should start watching Glenn Beck.

This assumes, of course, that these Democrats would act on information instead of use future attacks to strip us of our liberty.

There are quite a few conspiracy theories out there.  Our instinct is to ignore these, but one seems to stick:  The protests and attacks were anticipated and wanted by this administration.  But when four Americans, including our ambassador, were murdered, it got too hot and our dear leader fled to Letterman.

Have a better explanation?

Quote of the Day

From PJ O'Rourke, Holidays in Hell, 1988, 257 pages.  Page 203, author arguing with two Europeans in Germany:

"Your country's never been invaded."  (This fellow had been two during the Blitz, you see.)  "You don't know the horror, the suffering.  You think war is…"

I snapped.

"A John Wayne movie," I said.  "That's what you were going to say, wasn't it?  We think war is a John Wayne movie.  We think life is a John Wayne movie - with the good guys and bad guys, as simple as that. Well, you know something, Mister Limey Poofter?  You're right.  And let me tell you who those bad guys are.  They're us.  WE BE BAD.

"We're the baddest-assed sons of bitches that ever jogged in Reeboks.  We're three-quarters grizzly bear and two-thirds car wreck and descended from a stock market crash on our mother's side.  You take your Germany, France and Spain, roll them all together and it wouldn't give us room to park our cars.  We're the big boys, Jack, the original, giant, economy-sized, new and improved butt kickers of all time.  When we snort coke in Houston, people lose their hats in Cap d'Antibes.  And we've got an American Express card credit limit higher than your piss-ant metric numbers go.

"You say our country's never been invaded?  You're right, little buddy.  Because I'd like to see the needle-dick foreigners who'd have the guts to try.  We drink napalm to get our hearts started in the morning.  A rape and a mugging is our way of saying 'Cherrio.'  Hell can't hold our sock-hops.  We walk taller, talk louder, spit further, f**k longer and buy more things than you know the names of.  I'd rather be a junkie in a New York City jail than king, queen and jack of all you Europeans.  We eat little countries like this for breakfast and s**t them out before lunch."

Of course, the guy should have punched me.  But this was Europe.  He just smiled his shabby, superior European smile.  (God, don't these people have dentists?)

We are posting ten more quotes from his book at our Facebook page.  Come join and read along!
