Discovering Fred Reed

[orig post 7.18 7pm]

We found Fred Reed's site yesterday through another of our favorite blogs.  A writer with numerous articles at his site and books at Amazon.  Also, he was a Marine in our last war with Communists.

We read his Zimmerman article last night - a taste:

Of course racism was involved in the shooting. The prosecution established this beyond doubt. Trayvon referred to Zimmerman as a “creepy-ass cracker,” “cracker” being a highly pejorative term for low-class whites living in decaying trailers in the pine barrens and Everglades of Florida. So Trayvon, a racist, didn´t like white people. So what? Most blacks don´t.

We then bought his 2002 book, Nekkid In Austin.

It is refreshing to find someone more skilled in sarcasm and unrestrained thought than us who feels the same way about our country.  We've added his site, Fred on Everything, to our blogroll and encourage you to take a gander.

Here is a part of his Foreword in Nekkid In Austin, a collection of essays:

As empires die, the barbarians usually gather at the gates, preparing a final rush.  Unfortunately our savages are already inside.  They are in the public schools, the universities, and downtown in the cities.  They make our movies, set social policy from afar, instill appropriate values in our children.  They do not know that they are savages.  They now rule us, and there is nothing we can do about it.
Except watch.  Vast disasters make splendid theater.  This one is going to be a doozy.

UPDATED and BUMPED 7.24 10pm:

We've added Fred's book, Nekkid In Austin, to our Library section to the left.  We've also put a link to our Book Notes there.

UPDATED 7.25 10am:

We mentioned in the linked Book Notes that Fred reminded us of our late comrade, Crazy Uncle.  This was something we wanted to include here in our post too, as Crazy Uncle family visit often.

America is lucky to have men like Fred and Crazy Uncle who don't fall into the nuance crap of what is otherwise everyday life.  Let's call out real problems.  Let's find real solutions regardless of the outrage their suggestion causes.  Let's stomp out the failure that is liberalism run amok.
