Karl's Weekend Reading

Ann Coulter, owner of our sexy Commie Obama Rally Cap, piles on the Obama - negotiate with everybody conversation. This is another case of a issue so serious, Ann's sarcasm is pushed aside, but not completely, by crystal-clear points. And we love her conclusion. Here are some of her questions that we'll never hear a Democrat address:

What possible reason is there to meet with Ahmadinejad? To win a $20 bar bet as to whether or not the man actually owns a necktie?
...
Does Obama imagine he will make demands of Ahmadinejad? Using what stick as leverage, pray tell? A U.S. boycott of the next Holocaust-denial conference in Tehran?
...
What kind of deal do you make with a madman until he is ready to surrender?
...
Will President Obama listen respectfully as Ahmadinejad says he plans to build nuclear weapons? Will he say he'll get back to Ahmadinejad on removing all U.S. troops from the region? Will he nod his head as Ahmadinejad demands the removal of the Jewish population from the Middle East?

Thomas Sowell has another powerful article on race at Townhall.com, Mascot Politics. It differs slightly from Obama's 'great' speech on race.

For people on the left, however, blacks are trophies or mascots, and must therefore be put on display. Nowhere is that more true than in politics.

The problem with being a mascot is that you are a symbol of someone else's significance or virtue. The actual well-being of a mascot is not the point.
...
Politicians who use blacks as mascots do not hesitate to throw blacks to the wolves for the benefit of the teachers' unions, the green zealots whose restrictions make housing unaffordable, or people who keep low-price stores like Wal-Mart out of their cities.

Bret Stephens reacts to the new language guidelines from the Department of Homeland Security in his WSJ article, Homeland Security Newspeak. "Progress" vs. "Liberty"? THIS is what our tax dollars are funding?

In its most eye-catching recommendation (which goes strangely unmentioned in an Associated Press story about the memo), the DHS authors explain their preference for the word "progress" over "liberty."

"The struggle is for 'progress,' over which no nation has a monopoly," reads the memo. "The experts we consulted debated the word 'liberty,' but rejected it because many around the world would discount the term as a buzzword for American hegemony. But all people want to support 'progress,' which emphasizes that there is a path for building strong families and prosperity among the current dislocations of globalization and change. And progress is precisely what the terrorists oppose through their violent tactics and through their efforts to impose a totalitarian world view."

It seems to have escaped the authors' notice that the most formidable totalitarian movement of the 20th century – communism – was, by its own lights, "progressive." It seems to have escaped their notice that the essence of a totalitarian system is the denial of liberty (often in the name of progress). It seems to have escaped their notice that "progress" is a word that signifies nothing. Exactly what is one progressing to?

Obama Gaffe #3665

And counting...

Can this guy fit any more incorrect statements into a day? Could he if he tried?

So Obama has an Uncle that liberated Auschwitz. Not the brother of his Mom, herself an only child. Maybe it was a great uncle, and maybe it was Buchenwald that he might have helped liberate. Maybe. Maybe. Maybe we'll get this right some day.

The gaffes of Obama, and every other liberal who finds it easier to make up history than to learn it, are not the reason behind Ushanka.us. Our mission is to track communist activities around the globe and communist inspirations nationally. It is unfortunate that the Democrats continue to nominate candidates that cannot keep one foot grounded in reality, and that we are forced to lower our standards to report endless 'mis-statements'.

Amanda Carpenter has more on this latest Obama quote.

Michelle Malkin lists recent Obama Gaffes.

Charles Krauthamer writes:

...a presidential candidate makes a gaffe, then, realizing it is too egregious to take back without suffering humiliation, decides to make it a centerpiece of his foreign policy.

NBC and the White House - UPDATE & REPOST

It appears NBC has taken liberties with a recent Bush interview, skewing the presented segments in a pro-appeasement view.

White House counselor Ed Gillespie takes some liberties of his own in his complaint to NBC:

“I noticed that around September of 2007, your network quietly stopped referring to conditions in Iraq as a ‘civil war,’ ” Gillespie wrote. “Is it still NBC News’s carefully deliberated opinion that Iraq is in the midst of a civil war? If not, will the network publicly declare that the civil war has ended, or that it was wrong to declare it in the first place?”

Gillespie also hit NBC News on its reporting on the state of the economy.

“I’m sure you don’t want people to conclude that there is really no distinction between the ‘news’ as reported on NBC and the ‘opinion’ as reported on MSNBC, despite the increasing blurring of those lines,” Gillespie concluded. “I welcome your response to this letter, and hope it is one that reassures your broadcast network’s viewers that blatantly partisan talk show hosts like Christopher Matthews and Keith Olbermann at MSNBC don’t hold editorial sway over the NBC network news division.”

Bias in the media?

UPDATE 5.26: The White House targets the New York Times. It appears the NYT mis-represented Bush's support for GI Bill Reform.

In today's editorial, "Mr. Bush and the GI Bill", the New York Times irresponsibly distorts President Bush's strong commitment to strengthening and expanding support for America's service members and their families.

Again... Bias in the media?

Our prediction, albeit with some hesitation - the MSM will show their hand as the Obama meltdown becomes inevitable after the conventions.

Happy Memorial Day

Our thanks to the troops, our President, and to those that wave the flag!

Update 5.27: Adding two inspiring stories:

From Saturday's Wall Street Journal, Protesting the Antiwar Protestors. About Pennsylvanian Rich Davis who has led the anti-antiwar protests. An excerpt-

Mr. Davis had been building to such a decision for a long time. He was just a kid during the Vietnam War, but he is still bothered by the disrespect heaped on returning Vietnam vets in the 1960s and '70s. In part that is because, in 1967, Mr. Davis attended the funeral of a man he idolized – his sister's boyfriend, Marine Lance Cpl. Alan R. Schultz from Levittown, Pa. Schultz was killed by mortar fire in Vietnam.

"Al was a great guy," Mr. Davis remembers. "When we got the word that he had been killed, I felt the bottom fall out. I cried the rest of that summer."

Even today, Mr. Davis can't look at an antiwar protest without thinking that Schultz, his comrades and their modern-day counterparts are being disrespected. So after seeing the war protesters each week, Mr. Davis said to himself, "Not this war. Not this time."

"We're not silent anymore," Mr. Davis told me. "We refuse to let antiwar protesters have the stage to themselves."

And a great story of Gene Brinsom, wife of Sgt. James Brinsom, who has put yellow ribbons along the route that her husband will drive when he returns from Iraq. Local blogger and Commie Obama hat owner Sondrak has the write-up.

Last, our thanks to Yahoo! for recognizing the holiday. We wouldn't normally say thanks to a US corporation for this, but their competitor offers a stark contrast. Little Green Footballs has more.

Obama's Commencement Speech

We watched 3 minutes of his speech as Wesleyan today. After hearing the word "collective" one too many times, we turned CNN off and went on to enjoy our Memorial Day weekend.

The headline from the Hartford Courant: Obama treated as rock star at Wesleyan commencement

Here is a video we found that closely summarizes Obama's speech.

Karl's Weekend Reading

We spent this week watching Obama try to evade his July 2007 promise to conduct negotiations with Iran, and without preconditions.

Commie Obama hat owner and former UN Ambassador John R. Bolton comments on Obama's reaction to Bush's speech to Israel's Knesset, "where he equated 'negotiating with the terrorists and radicals' to 'the false comfort of appeasement." Monday's WSJ Editorial page.

Negotiation is not a policy. It is a technique. Saying that one favors negotiation with, say, Iran, has no more intellectual content than saying one favors using a spoon. For what? Under what circumstances? With what objectives? On these specifics, Mr. Obama has been consistently sketchy.
...
Moreover, negotiations – especially those "without precondition" as Mr. Obama has specifically advocated – consume time, another precious asset that terrorists and rogue leaders prize. Here, President Bush's reference to Hitler was particularly apt: While the diplomats of European democracies played with their umbrellas, the Nazis were rearming and expanding their industrial power.

Joe Lieberman, the maverick senator of the left, added his $0.02 in Wednesday's WSJ, Democrats and Our Enemies. Despite his rosy view of the recent Democrat courage in foreign affairs, he does hit on some points in the Obama-McCain comparison:

There are of course times when it makes sense to engage in tough diplomacy with hostile governments. Yet what Mr. Obama has proposed is not selective engagement, but a blanket policy of meeting personally as president, without preconditions, in his first year in office, with the leaders of the most vicious, anti-American regimes on the planet.

Mr. Obama has said that in proposing this, he is following in the footsteps of Reagan and JFK. But Kennedy never met with Castro, and Reagan never met with Khomeini. And can anyone imagine Presidents Kennedy or Reagan sitting down unconditionally with Ahmadinejad or Chavez? I certainly cannot.

Karl Rove, retired genius and hopefully future Commie Obama hat owner, writes in Thursday's WSJ, Obama's Troubling Instincts. He hits on a point the MSM is desperate to counter. In fact, we believe the MSM has 'pre-empted' this criticism of Obama's feel-as-you-go approach to current foreign affairs challenges. Mr. Rove comments on the background of a presidential-level negotiation and what he suspects will occur with the Obama-Ahmadinejad meeting:

I recommend that he read Henry Kissinger's book, "The White House Years." Mr. Obama would learn it took 134 private meetings between U.S. and Chinese diplomats before a breakthrough at a Jan. 20, 1970 meeting in Warsaw. It took 18 months of behind-the-scenes discussions before Mr. Kissinger secretly visited Beijing. And it took seven more months of hard work before Nixon went to China. The result was a new relationship, announced in a communiqué worked out over months of careful diplomacy.
...
But what might work on the primary campaign trail doesn't work nearly as well in Tehran. What, for example, does Mr. Obama think he can offer the Iranians to get them to become a less pernicious and destabilizing force? One of Iran's top foreign policy goals is a precipitous U.S. withdrawal from Iraq. This happens to be Mr. Obama's top foreign policy goal, too. Why should Iran or other rogue states alter their behavior if Mr. Obama gives them what they want, without preconditions?

And on Friday, Kimberely Strassel lands the final blow in her opinion piece, The Obama Learning Curve:

Today's Obama, all-but-nominee, is pitching to a broad American audience less keen to legitimize Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who provides weapons that kill American soldiers. The senator clumsily invited this debate when he took great umbrage to President Bush's recent criticism of appeasers (which, in a wonderfully revealing moment, Democrats instantly assumed meant them). Mr. Obama has since been scrambling to neutralize his former statement.

A week ago, in Oregon, he adopted the "no-big-deal" approach, telling listeners Iran was just a "tiny" country that, unlike the Soviet Union, did not "pose a serious threat to us." But this suggested he'd missed that whole asymmetrical warfare debate – not to mention 9/11 – so by the next day, he'd switched to the "blame-Republicans" line. Iran was in fact "the greatest threat to the United States and Israel and the Middle East for a generation" – but all because of President Bush's Iraq war.
...
It wasn't supposed to be this way. Democrats entered this race confident national security wouldn't be the drag on the party it has in the past. With an unpopular war and a rival who supports that war, they planned to wrap Mr. McCain around the unpopular Mr. Bush and be done with it. Mr. Obama is still manfully marching down this road, today spending as much time warning about a "third Bush term" as he does reassuring voters about a first Obama one.

Wednesday Afternoon Cigar

We toured the Davidoff cigar factory last week in Santiago, Dominican Republic. If you want the ultimate cigar, there is no comparison. We smoked a Davidoff #2 this afternoon as we celebrated the launch of CommieObama.com - our new storefront for the remainder of the 2008 election, and our first ads up on Townhall and Red Planet Cartoons.

Liberals = Socialism = Communism

YouTuber and musician Rafael Brom has put a few videos together with his own music that seems to tie US Democrats to Communism.

Look at this 6-minute video and let us know if you too see the hidden connections. WARNING: graphic images.

Atheism is the bond between liberals, socialists and communists. Once you consider yourself the highest being, 100,000,000 dead in 74 years is a necessary cost for the benefits of Utopia. That is why we too see more similarities than differences.

Glenn Beck's Fear of Socialism

This is just one of a hundred or more of Glenn Beck's references to the Obamas as Socialists that we've seen in the past two months. Glenn is spot on, and is keeping the momentum on this topic. That is good, because.... we're not hearing the others harp on the most significant agenda theme of the 2008 presidential election. (video: 6 minutes)

Best quote: Guest Mark Steyn on Michelle Obama's expectation that the American people must drop their cynicism - "...if she wants me to shed my cynicism, she's going to have to pry it from my cold dead cynical fingers."

Glenn and Mark should be wearing our hat!

We'll try to capture more Glenn for our archives so when Obama wins in November, we can say 'we told you so'. Assuming, that is, that we get a chance to stand in line together for bread, medical care, gun turn-in, or arugula.

Monday Afternoon Cigar

Nationalism & Politics in Russia

Critics were proven right! See, Mr. Putin stepped down Wednesday as the constitution requires!

We'll see what the new Prime Minister brings to the table... We saw what he brought to Red Square on Friday.

Putin, Medvedev, etal are proving the theory that communist-inspired dictators do best when nationalism is running high. Friday's Victory Day parade was the first since the fall of the Soviet Union. It follows months of silly, but aggressive, mothball bomber runs toward Japan and England, and in our opinion, has little to do with celebrating the Nazi defeat in WWII. Plenty of media was in attendance, however Anna Politkovskaya, Ivan Safronov, and 12 of their other dead colleagues were not.

The great sacrifices we have made for the freedom and independence of our country, the incalculable privation and suffering our people have endured during the war, our intense labours in the rear and at the front, laid at the altar of our motherland, have not been in vain; they have been crowned by complete victory over the enemy. The ago-long struggle of the Slavonic peoples for their existence and independence has ended in victory over the German aggressors and German tyranny.

Henceforth, the great banner of the freedom of the peoples and peace between the peoples will fly over Europe.

- Stalin, May 7, 1945

We saw how that whole "banner of the freedom" thing went.

Here is an 8-minute video of Friday's Victory Day parade.

Karl's Weekend Reading

So, Hillary is out, eh? Here are links to some of the better obituaries from this week:

Charles Krauthammer, Hillary Clinton's Long Learning Curve, at Townhall.com.

The Clinton Divorce, a WSJ editorial

George Will said it best, in his Townhall.com article, Hillary's Fuzzy Math:

After Tuesday's split decisions in Indiana and North Carolina, Clinton, the Yankee Clipperette, can, and hence eventually will, creatively argue that she is really ahead of Barack Obama, or at any rate she is sort of tied, mathematically or morally or something, in popular votes, or delegates, or some combination of the two, as determined by Fermat's Last Theorem, or something, in states whose names begin with vowels, or maybe consonants, or perhaps some mixture of the two as determined by listening to a recording of the Beach Boys' "Help Me, Rhonda" played backward, or whatever other formula is most helpful to her, and counting the votes she received in Michigan, where hers was the only contending name on the ballot (her chief rivals, quaintly obeying their party's rules, boycotted the state, which had violated the party's rules for scheduling primaries), and counting the votes she received in Florida, which, like Michigan, was a scofflaw and where no one campaigned, and dividing Obama's delegate advantage in caucus states by pi multiplied by the square root of Yankee Stadium's ZIP code.

Karl Rove also agrees that Hillary is out. Here are some of his predictions from his WSJ opinion article, It's Obama, Warts and All:

Mrs. Clinton may battle until June and possibly until the convention in August.
---
As much as Mr. Obama's cheerleaders in the media hate it, Rev. Jeremiah Wright remains a large general-election challenge for Mr. Obama.
---
This will be a very difficult year for Republicans. The economy's shaky state, an unpopular war, and the natural desire for partisan change after eight years of one party in the White House have helped tilt the balance to the Democrats.
---
The battlegrounds will look familiar. It will be the industrial heartland from Pennsylvania to Wisconsin, minus Indiana (Republican) and Illinois (Democrat); the western edge of the Midwest from Minnesota south to Missouri; Colorado, New Mexico and Nevada in the Rocky Mountains; Florida; and New Hampshire.

The proud Ushanka owner and former UN Ambassador John R. Bolton continues his criticism of the Bush Administration with regards to North Korea's nuclear program and possible Syrian proliferation cooperation - Bush's North Korea Nuclear Abdication.

The strategic folly here is rooted in the administration's decision to focus on North Korea's plutonium supplies and stop caring what Pyongyang once did or is doing on the enriched-uranium route to nuclear weapons. That could be a fatal mistake.
---
Here is the real problem. North Korean nuclear proliferation is quite likely more than a series of one-time transactions that create problems elsewhere in the world. It may very well be integral to its own nuclear weapons program.

The Bush administration can wish away these possibilities and still achieve its deal. But it cannot wish away the underlying reality, the full scope of which we simply do not know. That reality, whatever its reach, will still be there to haunt President Bush's successor and threaten international peace.

Thank You... Hillary?

We'll take it where we can get it!

Here is one of Hillary's flyers in Indiana asking: "Where does Barack Obama really stand on guns?"

We're not with Hillary, although we put her name on our sexy ushanka rally cap. But, we'll pile on in her Obama smack down!

Saturday Afternoon Cigar

Finally! Just when you think Obama is out, he goes and wins the primary in the great state of...

Guam

A Picture Says It All

We have open sores on our scalp from scratching our head so much on this particular topic. Is it just too hard to communicate the hypocrisy of the left in their effort to convey economic doom and gloom this election season? Are they so loyal to their ideology that they consciously ignore good news during a Republican-led administration?

We've had the pleasure of arguing this topic with die-hard liberals. One particular conversation, two months ago, went like this:

Liberal: You have no idea how bad this [economy] is. There are more comparisons with the Great Depression now than anytime since.

Karl: Isn't the un-employment rate at 4.7%? Hasn't it been lower under Bush than anytime since the rate was tracked?

Liberal (agitated): You don't understand! That doesn't mean those are good jobs.

Karl (feigning ignorance): But still, more are working now than ever before, right?

Liberal (from the high horse): That is not a useful calculation. There are people that aren't working that aren't counted.

Karl (w/ confused look): But the employment calculation is the same now as before, right? They didn't change the calculation method under Bush, did they?

Liberal (cornered): You watch Fox News, don't you?!

Ahh, checkmate!

By the way, employment is now at 5%. But, that has NOTHING to do with the recent 40% increase in the minimum wage!

So, it was refreshing to see Red Planet Cartoon make this point in one simple cartoon. Another Ushanka Tip to RPC!

Karl's Weekend Reading

As you would expect, we have plenty of links and quotes on Rev. Wright below. We've narrowed our opinion on the matter to one of two possibilities: Either Obama was misled for 20 years by someone he rightly assumed he could trust. We're guilty of similar mistakes. Or, Obama is an idiot. We honestly put the odds at 50-50 and hope, in the event he is elected in November, that it is the former. Some more important links first, then the Wright stuff:

James Taranto at the WSJ Best of the Web nails the AP on the voter ID ruling this week. We need more of this!

Accountability Journalism
On Monday the U.S. Supreme Court, by a 6-3 vote, upheld Indiana's requirement that voters present photo identification before casting ballots. Yesterday the Associated Press published a dispatch titled "Advocates: Voter ID Ruling May Disenfranchise US Voters."

It ran 15 paragraphs, required two reporters (Deborah Hastings got the byline; David Lieb "contributed"), and was totally one-sided, offering not a single argument in favor of voter ID requirements. It's possible that the AP did another dispatch titled "Advocates: Voter ID Ruling Helps Prevent Fraud," or some such, but we couldn't find it in a Factiva search.

WSJ's Wednesday editorial, Obama Gains, addressed Obama's two ignorant claims about capital gains taxes: 1) Most stocks are in 401k accounts and therefore will not be impacted by a CG tax increase, and 2) only the wealthy pay CG taxes. Really?

It is true that withdrawals from 401(k)s are taxed at ordinary income rates. That does not mean that the stock holdings in tax-deferred mutual funds are somehow fenced off from rising and falling values in the market. If investors see an increase in capital gains taxes in the offing, even to 20% from 15%, many will cash out before the new rate goes into effect. Unless Senator Obama can guarantee that the economy will be in a strong growth spurt when he imposes a higher capital gains tax rate, it's likely that share prices will fall, causing a decline in the value of the 401(k)s held by average Americans.
Indeed, Mr. Obama should reconsider his belief that capital gains are mostly the province of the wealthy. Millions of middle-class Americans do in fact realize investment gains annually. In 2005, according to IRS data, 47% of all tax returns reporting capital gains were from households with incomes below $50,000, and 79% came from households with incomes below $100,000.

Victor Davis Hanson reviews the good and the bad about the War on Terror in his Townhall.com article, The Half-Won, Half-Lost War. This particular 'bad' piece stood out, which reminds us that we're not going to get this level of analysis watching CNN...

In all our major wars — except the present one — Americans have won through a combination of military prowess, correctly identifying the enemy and economic savvy. In the Civil War, the South was blockaded and starved of its cotton revenues, an effort that proved every bit as important as Gettysburg and Sherman's "March to the Sea." Germany was blockaded in both World Wars and cut off from precious metals, oil and food. The Soviet economy collapsed before its military could. Only in this war has our own profligacy empowered our enemies.

And now the responses to Rev. Wright, as brief as possible.

Larry Elder, Townhall.com

Here's the "victicrat" mindset: Kids having difficulty performing well on standardized tests? Blame "cultural bias." Get pulled over by a cop? DWB -- driving while black. A disproportionate number of blacks in prison? A racist criminal justice system that "targets" blacks for prosecution and imprisonment. Katrina? As Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass., put it, "ethnic cleansing by inaction." Difficulty qualifying for a loan? Blame banks' devious plan to prevent blacks from getting "access to capital." Pay more for car insurance because you live in a high-crime neighborhood? Why, illegal "redlining," of course. High inner-city dropout rate? Bad teachers, unequal funding, racist teachers -- yada, blah, etc.

Charles Krauthammer, Townhall.com

How does one explain campaigning throughout 2007 on a platform of transcending racial divisions, while in that same year contributing $26,000 to a church whose pastor incites race hatred?

What is Obama to do? Dismiss all such questions about his associations and attitudes as "distractions." And then count on his acolytes in the media to wage jihad against those who have the temerity to raise these questions. As if the character and beliefs of a man who would be president are less important than the "issues."

Michelle Malkin, Townhall.com

It was just this March, in his Philadelphia racial reconciliation speech, that Obama was urging us not to dismiss Wright as a "crank or a demagogue" and protesting that he could "no more disown him than I can disown the black community."

Now, realizing how gravely his self-serving association with Wright has wounded his campaign, Obama himself has attempted to do both those things -- and expects the American public to believe him when he weakly and belatedly asserts that "when I say I find [Wright's] statements appalling, I mean it."

Dan Henninger, WSJ

Even as they watched Barack win, pundits and reporters were agog that a one-term, black-American senator from Illinois could have such an effect. This pickup-team coalition of idealists and pols, led by a virtual Luke Skywalker, was on the brink of pushing the Clinton empire over the cliff. It made the Clintons crazy.

This week we learned the limit of a dream in American politics. At Barack Obama's darkest hour, not one prominent ally came forward to support him. Everyone abandoned Everyman.

James Taranto, WSJ

Jeremiah Wright* may be a kook, but he has Barack Obama's number. The two men, who once either were intimates or barely knew each other, are now engaged in a kerfuffle about, among other things, whether they were intimates, as Wright asserts, or barely knew each other, as Obama claims. Wright says that Obama is playing politics in distancing himself from Wright, while Obama is offended by the notion that he would play politics. After all, he's a different kind of politician!
---
Obama listened to his gut and did what it told him to do. If the uncommitted superdelegates happened to be saying the same thing, why, that was just a happy coincidence.

And last, the sarcastic wit and clarity from Commie Obama Rally Cap owner, Ann Coulter. Townhall.com

Whew! I'm certainly glad to hear the "snippets" from Rev. Jeremiah Wright's sermons "in context."
---
In his speech to the National Press Club on Monday, for example, Wright described America as a country of "segregation, Jim Crow, lynching and the separate-but-equal fantasy." Then he ran outside to feed more quarters into the meter where his time machine was parked.
---
He said this is a country that "cuts food stamps and spends billions fighting in an unjust war in Iraq," neglecting to add that before you can cut the food stamp program, you must have a country that has a food stamp program.
---
He clarified his Sept. 16, 2001, sermon, in which he said that on 9/11 "America's chickens are coming home to roost" by saying: "You cannot do terrorism on other people and expect it never to come back on you." I'm glad to get the full context on that because I had thought he was talking about chicken farming.
---
Why did Rev. Wright's supporters think it would be helpful to hear longer versions of the "snippets"?

No further questions, Your Honor!

Coming to a Theater Near You

An unusual post for us, but we found ourselves with browser windows open to some great previews. So, here are four that appear to be mandatory viewing. At least for the Karl household.

Defiance, 19 December

IMDb pre-screening review:

James Bond and Oscar winning director Ed Zwick take on the Nazis.
---
It's a superb film with a nice balance of heavy hitting action and intense drama, but if that's not enough to make you want to see it, just the fact that these on screen heroes existed in real life definitely make it worth the watch.

Read Debbie Schlussel's review and comments. Her grandfather fought the Nazis with the guns he didn't turn in!

You Don't Mess with the Zohan - 6 June

An Adam Sandler movie. Plot: A Mossad agent fakes his death so he can re-emerge in New York City as a hair stylist.

The Happening, 13 June

M. Night Shyamalan is releasing another one! That's all we need to know. Now where do we buy tickets?

Warriors... in their own words, Released 24 May

Order Book and DVD here. Trailer here.

Copied from their site:

With this documentary, photo exhibit and book our aim is to raise funding for and awareness of the men and women warriors that have given so much to protect our freedoms. Freedom is not free.

U/T to Debbie Schlussel for pointing out first two movies above.

An U/T to "The Commander" for the Warriors recommendation.

A Quiet May Day

The local LA radio hosts are saying LAPD did two things to reduce the tensions: 1) close off the streets in the rally area, as the problems from previous years started with anarchists blocking traffic, and 2) LAPD using a loud speaker system that broadcasts common police commands in the 90+ languages of LA. Goodness...

Protest Shooter has started posting some pics from the Bay Area.

We'll link to more if we find them.

In business news today, hats were flying off the shelves at Ushanka.us! There is nothing like a May Day Special to jump start the economy!
