An American Kulak

Lenin targeted the middle-class Soviet farmer first. Labeled the Kulak, this farmer was slightly different than the peasant farmer as he own a horse, or land, or both. 250 acres? You're a Kulak. Are you turning a profit at farming? You're a Kulak.

Three years after Lenin's takeover the Soviets suffered their first mass famine. Like all Soviet famines to follow, it had nothing to do with weather or other natural event. It had to do with big government. In this first famine, it was the removal of Kulaks from the farms. As you can guess, their success was what made them a target, but it was their productivity that could not be replaced.

Un-intended consequences always follow liberalism, and people either suffer or die. Always.
